How to remain confident and faithful during a stressful period

Hi everyone and welcome back to my blog. Once again Happy New Year to each and every one of you. May this new year bring you lots of joy and blessings. My first post for this new year will serve as a little push or motivation for everyone going through a challenging/stressful time.

These past couple of days have been hard. Ever since I got back from my study abroad experience in the U.S, I have been applying for jobs and have been rejected for every single one of them. I only have two job experiences and for both jobs, I was accepted in the blink of an eye so I’m not used to those kinds of rejections. For the first time ever, I started doubting my skills and abilities. I thought to myself maybe I’m not good enough. This situation has had an impact on my mental health and I know I’m not the only one going through this. Therefore I’m sharing a few tips on why and how to stay positive during those difficult times.

1. Do not set unrealistic expectations. That’s exactly what happened to me. I fell into the trap. I always thought that I would get a job right after finishing college because I was a great student and have a bunch of accomplishments and certificates. I always believed in my abilities. I thought that any employer would be impressed by my resume and any company would be lucky to have me. It’s unhealthy to have expectations that you know deep down are unrealistic.

2. Believe in yourself. Failure doesn’t define who you are and what you’re capable of. Fall 10 times, get up 20. Maybe the reason why you got rejected for the job offer is because you’re overqualified and not because you lack skills.

3. Good things take time. You know how they always say that wines get better with time? Well that’s how you should see life. The best rewards take time. Some people might find their dream job right after college, for others it might take years. Everyone is different and our destiny is also different.

4. Life is too short. Life is short, everything can disappear in a blink of an eye. Don’t spend your time dwelling on the past and on your failures. Focus on the lessons and how you will apply them from now on.

5. The storm will pass. Breathe!! Better days are coming. The dark cloud will disappear soon and the sun will shine. Be patient and hopeful.

6. Everything happens for a reason. The sentence is clear and understandable. Even if everything might seem confusing and unfair now, I’m sure there’s a good explanation and reason why. Accept the fact that there’s nothing you could’ve done to avoid this situation and focus on how to get out of it instead.

7. Take care of yourself. While going through a hard time it’s mandatory to remember that you matter, your health matters. Take some time for yourself away from everyone. Focus on what can ease your mind and help you relax : read, practice some yoga, go for a walk, run. It will get your mind off your struggles and help relieve your stress.

8. Keep yourself busy. While waiting for that important phone call or the life changing email, do something productive. Learn something new or find a place to do community work for example. Make yourself useful. It will help you realize your worth.

9. Get ready. When dealing with a stressful situation like waiting to be called for a job interview, think about the outcome. What if they call you today, are you ready to go in and ace the interview? Probably not. Take the time to prepare yourself and work on your weaknesses.

10. Pray and leave it to God. Whatever you do in life always put God in the center. I strongly believe in fate. Nothing in life is a coincidence. God knows what He’s doing we just have to stay still and trust. We may not understand now why we’re going through this situation , but maybe it’s God’s way of protecting us from a potential danger.

That’s all for today. Thank you everyone for believing in me and supporting me. If like me you are going through a stressful period, may God watch over you. I send you all my support. Keep your head up. Until we meet again, stay safe and be blessed… always. (PS: while adding some finishing touches to this article I received a call for a job interview, wish me luck.)
