Hello everyone, today as my first post I will try to give you 10 tips on how to get better grades\ud83d\ude01\ud83d\udc4c\ud83c\udffe. I\u2019m actually having midterms this week and I thought that it would be a good time to share those tips.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n

So ever since I started college, I\u2019ve been getting a lot of great grades. Almost everyone at school (those who took the same class as me) knows me and always describe me as \u201cti pitit ki p\u00e8 moun nan, li f\u00f2 oui\u201d which is creole for the intelligent shy little girl lol. Some love me and encourage me to do better, some are fueled with jealousy. That\u2019s just how life goes. Anyway back to the subject people, the first thing that helped me was the fact that after I got my first rep ort card, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to bet with him that I\u2019d keep on getting good grades. It totally became a challenge for me and I don\u2019t plan on stopping until I get that degree. Here are the 10 tips I would recommend.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #1<\/strong> : You need to have a GOAL \u2728. That\u2019s the first thing you would have to do. You need to know what you want in life. I\u2019ve always said that I want to get that degree and I want my name to be remembered positively. My goal after the bet I made was to get good grades all eight semesters and I am doing my best .<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #2<\/strong> : Always write down notes\ud83d\udcdd. What I\u2019ve noticed in college is that most of the professors tell you that you\u2019re in college now you don\u2019t need to take notes just listen to what they have to say and go make your own research. To me that\u2019s important but taking notes is also important. You don\u2019t need to write everything they are saying but the key points. So when you go home you can develop them further.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #3<\/strong> : ALWAYS<\/strong> I repeat ALWAYS be on time when you\u2019re going to school\ud83d\udd58. Most of the times college kids tend to say that they\u2019re in college now, they\u2019re adults, they\u2019re in charge and can do whatever they want. Some think being late is a form of coolness<\/em> and that the teachers can\u2019t say anything to them. Well there\u2019s a small amount of truth in this but most of the times the teachers won\u2019t tell you anything because they know that you will fail eventually. Always be on time, you have to be the one waiting for the professor and not the other way around. While being late you might miss that one thing the teacher said that could\u2019ve helped you answer a question in the exam.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #4<\/strong> : Don\u2019t wait until the day before the exam to start getting ready. This is one tip that I\u2019ve been hearing since high school and that I haven\u2019t been able to put in practice yet (I don\u2019t know if I will ever be able to lol). When you wait until the last minute to study , you might realize that there are lots of things that you didn\u2019t quite understand and it would be too late to contact the teacher. You might also realize that there were some notes you didn\u2019t have and by the time someone send them to you, you will be way too tired to keep on studying.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #5<\/strong> : Always ask for help. I mean it\u2019s not so hard. If you need help from a teacher or a classmate go for it. Sometimes your shyness can prevent you from understanding something that could eventually be on the exam. I\u2019m speaking from experience. There are times where you could ask such a relevant question that the teacher could give you bonus points.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #6<\/strong> : Be sure of yourself. Trust yourself, trust your instincts I would say. If the teacher asks a question and you know the answer don\u2019t stay silent and just wait for someone else to say it. Just like I just said, you might lose bonus points from not taking that chance. I mean what do you have to lose? I have lost A LOT and I mean a lot of bonus points because I was too shy and unsure of myself. Those bonus points can help a 90 turn into a 95\ud83d\ude09. We\u2019re always scared to make a mistake. Mistakes are good sometimes because they shape you into a better version of you.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #7<\/strong> : I don\u2019t know if you guys do this too but what I like to do when I have one teacher that gives you tons of notes (that would most likely not help you understand the class at all) , I take a sheet of paper or I take my laptop and start making a resume or I try to summarize each chapter. I try to find the important words and concepts and try to explain the notes to myself in front of the mirror like I was teaching a class. Most of the times my friends use that same paper I made to study too. It\u2019s effective and it makes you understand the class even better than when the teacher was teaching.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #8<\/strong> : Get some rest\ud83d\ude34. Rest is an important factor to get good grades. Even though sometimes you might not feel tired, your body knows when it needs to be recharged. And when the bell rings, you have to obey. Personally, I study late at night because during the day there are way too many activities going around and it doesn\u2019t help at all. What I do is I take naps during the day and I stay late to study or to do my homework.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip #9<\/strong> : When in a group project, do not wait for the other classmates to do the work for you, most of the times your classmates might wait until last minute to do everything. Therefore you should be prepared before them. I always try to be the leader of the group projects because I have this leader quality in me that can help me motivate and lead the work. Even if you only have one part in the homework\/presentation, you need to be aware of what every one else is doing and understand each part. So that after the presentation when they start asking questions you can answer anything. Don\u2019t just limit yourself to the questions but it is also very important to make your own research. \u201cResearch is to see what everybody else has seen, and to think what nobody else has thought<\/em>.\u201d \u2013 Albert Szent-Gyorgyi<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Tip # 10<\/strong>: KNOW YOUR WORTH\u2728\ud83d\ude0d\ud83d\udc4c\ud83c\udffe. Yes that is really important when it comes to your grades. Sometimes the people that are the most intelligent ones always find something to discredit themselves. No baby you are great, you are worthy, you are amazing and YOU DEFINITELY CAN DO IT. What you wrote on the paper is right, don\u2019t doubt yourself, focus, follow your goal and be successful.<\/p>\r\n

\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n

Don\u2019t forget guys, college is not about studying and getting good grades only. Grades do not define intelligence. College\u00a0is about understanding what you\u2019re studying and falling in love with it. If you fall in love with what you\u2019re studying, trust me you will understand each concepts very well and you will be able to make anyone that isn\u2019t familiar with your field understand your point of view. My parents have never asked me or forced me to get good grades but I knew that by studying hard I was making them proud and making myself proud. To be honest guys this journey has helped me to have more confidence and to love myself a lot more( but that\u2019s for another story)\ud83d\ude03\ud83d\ude01.<\/b><\/em><\/p>\r\n
